SKIMMERS

Just as a swimming pool skimmer draws water from the surface of a swimming pool and strains out floating matter before it reaches the pool pump, a pond skimmer draws water from the surface of a pond and strains out leaves and other floating debris before they can reach the pond pump. Pump and filter maintenance are reduced, and when maintenance is required, the pump is easily accessible from outside the pond. Connecting the pump to an external filter or waterfall is also simplified because there is no need to run a hose over the pond edge.

OPERATION AND FEATURES: Pond skimmers are buried in the ground at the pond edge, just above the waterline. The rubber pond liner is sealed to the face of the box with a clamping plate. Water flows from the pond, through a weir (opening) fitted with a tilting door, through a leaf net, and through a pre-filter pad into a submersible pump at the rear of the box. Water leaving the pump flows through a discharge assembly and into a flexible pipe that passes through the side wall of the skimmer and runs underground to a filter or waterfall.

All of our skimmers offer several important features that distinguish them from other pond skimmers. The door, called a "weir", are specially designed to force all the water to flow over the top for optimal skimming action and makes it possible to close the door to drain the skimmer box for cleaning. The filter is vertical, so it can be easily removed for cleaning. A separate pump compartment behind the filter pad makes the pump is easily accessible at all times.

TYPES OF SKIMMERS: We offer five skimmers. Our standard skimmer is most popular and has an 8" weir that is ideal for pumps from 1200 GPH to 3000 GPH (PRO700, 23" x 19.5" x 23" high). For larger ponds requiring larger pumps, we offer a larger skimmer available with a 10" weir for pumps from 3000 GPH to 6000 GPH (PRO900, 25" x 23" x 29" high), or 16" weir for pumps from 6000 GPH to 10,000 GPH (PRO1200, 25" x 23" x 29" high). Both the standard and large skimmers are made of thick structural foam polyethylene to resist soil pressures.

Our newest skimmer (Savio Skimmerfilter, 25" x 24" x 25" high) accepts a 6" weir for pumps from 600 GPH to 2000 GPH, an 8.5" weir for pumps from 1200 GPH to 3000 GPH, and a 16" weir for pumps from 3000 GPH to 5000 GPH. We also offer a smaller version (Savio Compact Skimmerfilter, 18" x 23" x 20" high) that accepts a 6" weir for pumps from 600 GPH to 2000 GPH and an 8.5" weir for pumps from 1200 GPH to 3000 GPH. Both are extremely well made of injection-molded polyethylene, and feature molded plastic leaf baskets, provision for internal UV sterilizers, and easy-to-conceal designs.

We can supply a discharge assembly for any skimmer that includes all necessary fittings and check valves to fit any pump. Other accessories include automatic water fill valves, automatic shutoff switches, bottom drain adapters, and synthetic-stone lids. Where an external skimmer is not feasible, such as for formal ponds, we offer a small internally mounted skimmer.
