REPAIRING RUBBER LINERS

Permanent repairs in both Butyl and EPDM rubber are easily made with our self-adhesive repair tapes. Order a custom-cut length of PondTechnology Cured or Uncured Repair Tape that measures at least three inches longer and wider than the hole or tear to be repaired. The cured tape is more durable and should be used on all flat or gradually curving surfaces; uncured tape must be used on very irregular surfaces such as folds and corners.

For best results purchase PondTechnology Seam Cleaner/Primer. As an alternative, you can substitute toluene or naptha sold in paint stores. Do not use any other solvents! Drain the pond well below the damaged area, scrub the area to be repaired to remove any mud and algae, and let the rubber dry in the sun. If possible, slide a board under the damaged area.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Step 1: Using a scissors, cut a piece of Repair Tape at least three inches longer and wider than the damaged area. Round the corners.

Step 2: Wearing protective gloves, apply seam cleaner/primer to the rubber with a lint-free cloth and scrub with a plastic cleaning pad. If you substitute solvent, you must repeatedly apply the solvent, scrub, and wipe with a lint-free cloth until the rubber is dark black, and then wipe once more with a clean solvent-saturated cloth.
Step 3: Remove and discard the paper backing from the patch. Try not to touch the sticky bottom surface!
Step 4: Carefully position the patch so that it extends at least an inch past all sides of the damage (it will stick wherever it touches). Rub the patch from the center outward to remove trapped air.
Step 5: Roll with a 2" to 3" wide roller. If you don't have a roller, press firmly with your thumbs or the heels of your palms. Wait until the next day to refill the pond.
