PENETRATIONS

BULKHEAD FITTINGS: Bulkhead fittings are three-part assemblies used to make penetrations in rigid plastic tanks or filters. The flanged and male part, which includes a sealing gasket, goes on one side and the nut is screwed tightly from the other side, compressing the gasket and making a watertight seal. Threaded adapters can be screwed into either side to connect to pipe or hose. Bulkhead fittings can also be used to penetrate rubber, but the hole must be cut very carefully.

PIPE BOOTS: We offer molded rubber boots to seal pipe penetrations from 1/2" to 6" diameter. The boots have wide flanges with a pre-applied seam tape that will bond directly to rubber liners. The rubber should be cleaned with PondTechnology Seam Cleaner/Primer before taping. After taping, the perimeter of the flange and the connection to the pipe should be caulked with EPDM caulk.

Pipe Boot, 1/2" - 3", $24.00
Pipe Boot, 4" - 6", $30.00
EPDM Caulk, $4.00

BOTTOM DRAINS: These large plastic bottom drains are ideal for use with our vortex filters or pre-filters and for direct feeds to external pumps. Caulk is applied between the rubber liner and the flange of the drain, and a wide ring securely clamps the rubber in place and makes a watertight seal. Water enters under an adjustable anti-vortex dome and flows virtually unobstructed to a 4" side outlet in the base.

Bottom Drain with Dome, 4" socket, $72.00
