	CORRUGATED BLACK PVC HOSE: PondTechnology corrugated PVC hose is a heavy-duty spiral-reinforced flexible black hose with a smooth interior. This is an excellent general-purpose hose for pond use, both inside and outside the pond. Since we size it to fit standard plumbing fittings, the inside diameter is larger than the nominal size (for example, 1/2" hose measures 5/8" inside) and the flow capacity is significantly higher than most hose currently used for aquatic gardening. 	FLEXIBLE BLACK PVC PIPE: PondTechnology flexible PVC pipe is a heavy-duty spiral-reinforced flexible black pipe, smooth on both the interior and exterior. The outside diameters are the same sizes as rigid PVC pipe and can be glued into standard PVC pipe fittings and valves with a special flexible pipe adhesive. Although not as easily bendable as corrugated hose, flexible pipe is ideal where extra strength is needed, such as where pipes must be buried underground or under rocks. However, this type of pipe should be used with caution in areas with severe termite infestation or where burrowing animals are very active. 	HOSE CLAMPS: For watertight seals, hoses must be securely fastened to hose fittings with a stainless-steel hose clamp. Unfortunately, most stainless-steel hose clamps aren't acceptable for pond use. The inexpensive general-purpose stainless-steel hose clamps sold in home centers are usually made from low-quality stainless-steel bands with zinc-plated carbon steel screws that often rust in just a few months. Better-quality clamps are made from 301-grade stainless steel bands with 410-grade stainless steel screws: these are typically called "all-stainless-steel" clamps. The highest quality stainless-steel clamps are "marine-grade" clamps which must be made only from 300-series stainless-steel bands and screws. For optimum corrosion resistance, the very best marine-grade clamps are made entirely from 316-grade stainless steel. For pond use where clamps are submerged or buried, we recommend only 316-grade stainless-steel marine-grade clamps. For underwater pump connections and other locations where a leak wouldn't be disastrous, we offer a standard-duty version. For buried fittings and other critical joints, we offer a state-of-the-art, heavy-duty clamp with a significantly thicker, non-perforated band and a high-torque tightening system. 	PIPE SEALANTS: For reliable joints, always use the proper sealants. We recommend teflon tape for all underwater threaded joints. For threaded joints outside the pond, pipe joint compound is more reliable, but make certain the compound is compatible for plastic pipe fittings. When using either teflon tape or pipe joint compound, turn the fitting finger tight and then use a strap wrench or adjustabe wrench to tighten one-half to one more turn. Do not overtighten and do not use a pipe wrench! Flexible pipe must be glued with special flex pipe cement. Do not use ordinary pipe cements used for rigid PVC!
